No Need to Tell Me. I Oregano!

June 23rd, 2017

Okay, so oregano isn’t a great use for a pun, but it can be used more diversely than for a failed comedy act. You may already use it to add flavor to your chicken, pizza, Greek salad, or even that delicious chimichurri sauce, but did you know that it might also help treat acne, dandruff, or even intestinal disorders? While it’s yet to be scientifically proven that oregano treats these common ailments, oregano has been used since ancient times, including use by the infamous Greek physician Hippocrates. He may not have been completely aware of all the claimed uses or even that it came in more than just an herb form, but nowadays it can be seen in oil, capsule, soft gel, cream, or even juice forms, each with its own immune health benefits.

Oil & Water

Oil of oregano can be used to help with various water-based tissues; in essence, the entire body. Roughly 60% of your body is composed of water. You may think, “But water and oil don’t mix.” In traditional and metaphorical standards, you would be correct, but oregano oil does mix well, especially with an anatomy in need of repair. While there are dozens of claimed benefits of oil of oregano, some of the most common benefits are to help with respiratory conditions, inflammation, and antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-parasitic issues. No Bones about It

Even after we go through early stages of growth, our bodies need to be strong to take on the new challenges that every day gives us. While oregano can help with healing your body, it is also swimming in vitamin K which helps to promote the production of blood clotting proteins, promotes bone growth, and helps to maintain bone density.  In addition to making sure your inner skeleton is strong, oregano also contains a large amount of antioxidants which help protect your body from getting an infection.

Such a Pain

We all get them: aches, pains, stings, itches, burns, etc. You just go through your day and pray it goes away, or have a loved one massage it away. While oregano isn’t trying to replace your loved one, it could help irritate them less. In addition to the already lengthy benefits to this amazing plant, oregano is even said to relieve pain after it is applied to the area of hurt. Studies do indicate that when compared with other painkillers, it stands its ground, without the added side effects of standard painkillers.
