Gluten-Free Just Got Tastier!

October 6th, 2009

Gluten-Free diets have become increasingly popular these days, and there are many new products designed to meet the demand for a gluten-free lifestyle.  Though most people may only have slight intolerance to Gluten, it is estimated that about 15% of Americans suffer mild to moderate symptoms that can be lessened by reducing gluten ingredients from the diet.  The good news is that living a Gluten-Free lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all of your favorite foods anymore.  All you need to do is stock gluten-free ingredients among your other healthy kitchen products.

Grains such as wheat, rye, barley and oats are the main culprits of gluten intolerance.  These grains are found in many food items such as cereals, croutons, cheese, broths, cakes, pasta, pizza, pretzels, donuts, crackers, and the list goes on and on.  Though it seems that the list of products that do contain gluten outnumbers the list of products that don’t, finding solutions has never been easier.

Since most of us only have a slight sensitivity (if any) to gluten it is easy to make simple substitutions to your meals to see a positive effect.  Besides the gluten-free pasta, pizza crusts, bagels, cookies and other items you can find at your local health food market, there are also many new protein bars and snacks to substitute into your diet.  If you enjoy baking, you can still enjoy your favorite cakes, muffins and bread by swapping out your every day flour mixes with new baking products such as Gluten-Free Baking Mix

There are several new brands that have gluten-free lines of protein bars.  NuGo Nutrition makes a bar called NuGo Free bar which is free of gluten, soy and dairy.  They come in flavors like Carrot Cake, Chocolate Crunch and Dark Chocolate Trail Mix.  Think Thin bars are another alternative for gluten-free protein bars with no sugar, 20 grams of protein and plenty of vitamins and minerals in each bar.   Lara Bars created flavors like Apple Pie, Banana Bread, Cherry Pie and dozens of other varieties that are growing in popularity in this ever more popular, gluten-free world.  Lastly, you can try wheat-free Wellements Bora Bora Bar which is certified organic, healthy and low in calories.

NOW Gluten-Free Baking Mix
