November 10th, 2009

Herbs have been known to help improve circulation and increase the transportation of nutrients from cells throughout the body.  Many herbs and supplements can help regulate the blood flow and strengthen arteries and capillaries.  Vitamin-E, Vitamin-C and Vitamin-B along with Cayenne Pepper, Horse Chestnut and Butchers Broom are all known to help with proper circulation.

Increasing the circulation in your body can dramatically change how your feel and perform on a daily basis, so it is imperative that you keep this system in top shape.  Symptoms of poor circulation include decreased brain function, heart, liver, kidney problems, and numbness in the limbs, varicose veins and loss of sexual drive.    Your body can become sluggish; you can have loss of memory, high blood pressure, problems with digestion, swelling of the hands and feet, leg cramps or chest pain.

Butcher’s Broom Improves Circulation

Though genes may alter the development of the circulatory function, circulation problems are usually a result of lifestyle choices, lack of exercise and poor habits.   So how are herbs like Cayenne, Butcher’s broom and Horsechestnut beneficial for improved flow of blood through your body?

Cayenne is a mild form of chili pepper that has been shown to stimulate the heart and improve circulation.  It also increases the metabolic rate of the body, which may help increase the ability to lose weight.  You can find supplements combos like Cayenne and Garlic or just Cayenne.  Find a combination that works specifically for your needs.

Horse Chestnut has been used to improve leg vein circulation and has been shown to reduce swelling in the legs.  This is especially helpful when you are seated for long periods of time.  Horse Chestnut can be found in herbal supplement form and can be taken in combination with other herbs.  Extracts are usually standardized for Aescin which is the active compound in the Horse Cchestnut tree, and studies include evidence that this is as beneficial as compression therapy for circulation.

The benefits of Butcher’s Broom were found after extracting from the root of a shrub in the lily family.  It works synergistically with Vitamin-C or other bioflavonoids to treat varicose veins, hemmorrhoids and chronic venous insufficiency.  Though it is not recommended for people with high blood pressure, there are no significant side effects with this herb.

Incorporating these herbs into your daily routine may just be the pick me up your body needs.  As always, consult with your doctor before incorporating these into your diet, especially if you are already taking prescriptives.  These herbs may be the key to improving your circulatory system and bring life back into your body.
