Flu Bug Bite You Yet?
The Flu bug bit me earlier this month, and it was a serious doozy! If it wasn’t for Vitamin C, hot tea, flu formulas and lots of rest, I would still be curled up under a blanket, sick and miserable, watching reality TV reruns with a box of tissue by my side.
You know when it’s coming. Suddenly you start sneezing out of control, maybe you wake up one morning with a sore throat? You’re blowing your nose every 2 minutes and your head feels like it is going to explode out of your eyeballs? At this point you need to just face the facts – you have the flu. The sooner you accept this the sooner you can get on with the remedies.
First, load yourself up with Vitamin C. I prefer Tangerine Emergen-C packets because they taste like Tang. Start either mixing those or Airborne tabs with water and some sort of Echinacea and Goldenseal herb combo. I prefer liquid form like Nature’s Answer Echinacea & Goldenseal (Alcohol-Free) 2 fl.oz but you can also take capsule form like Good N’ Natural’s Echinacea & Goldenseal caps.
To shorten the length of your flu, you can try Boiron products like Boion Flu-like Symptoms – Oscillococcinum or Boiron Cold – Coldcalm. Oscillococciunum contains an ingredient named “Anas barbariae hepatis et”, which is a diluted preparation made with an extract of the liver and heart of a duck. Something found in this extract is believed to shorten the longevity of the virus. Alternative Homeopathic medicine follows the believe that that if large amount of something can make people sick, small amounts can cure diseases with causing the symptoms. Sounds quacky, I know…but this product sells off the shelves and users are raving about how well it works.
Next take something that will alleviate some of the painful symptoms that are causing you unending misery. Try Sambucol Cold & Flu Relief 30 tabs or Sambucol Immune Liquid Raspberry 4 fl.oz. These will help alleviate some of your pain, plus help you get better faster.
When you get to the coughing stage of the flu, try Hylands Homeopathic Cough Syrup with Honey 4 fl.oz and some hot tea. I tried Jason Winters Green Tea, which is ok with some lemon and honey but there are other flavors. You can also try Jason Winters Tea Bags in Cinnamon, Peach or Raspberry. If needed, you should also think about trying a throat lozenge or throat mist to soothe the sore throat that usually accompanies the coughing.
Now I’m no doctor, so all of this is my own little recipe for healing. The main ingredient in the healing process is rest. Sleep as much as possible and don’t push it! You’ll be back to yourself in no time.
