Homemade Masks with Bentonite Clay
There is a popular obsession right now with facial masks that claim to drastically improve your skin. You probably see dozens of options ranging from gel to clay to paper, but what actually works? One of the most popular types that has taken the internet by storm is bentonite clay. Online, you’ll find thousands of reviews from fans, raving that it removes toxins, clears blemishes, and softens the skin. Some even claimed it helped lighten sun spots!
You’ll usually see it referred to as a clay – but most are sold in powder form. Most of these products will have the same, main ingredient – 100% bentonite clay. The clay dries on your skin which causes your pores to tighten and your skin to feel toned and firm.
What you will need:
- – bentonite clay (Try Life-Flo Bentonite Clay – Facial Detox for Oily Skin!)
- – water or apple cider vinegar (Try Dr. Mercola Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Sweet w/ Ginger & Turmeric)
- – a face brush (optional)
- – plastic or wooden container to mix the mask in
You can follow the directions on the container on how to mix it (typically two parts liquid, 1 part powder) or you can mix it to a consistency you prefer. Everyone’s skin is different so it’s all up to your preference. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to try it with water first and always do a spot test 24 hours in advance to make sure you’re not allergic to anything in the product.
- Apply the clay to a freshly washed face. You can use your hands/fingers to apply it or you can use a brush.*I like using a make up brush to apply it evenly and avoid a mess.
- Once applied leave it on your face for 5-30 minutes, or until it’s almost dry. You do not need to let it dry completely. You may feel your skin tighten as it dries – this is normal.*After you wash it off, your face may appear slightly red. This is also normal and should only last about thirty minutes or less.
- The final step is applying a moisturizer so your skin doesn’t become too dry. Allstarhealth.com carries a wide variety of moisturizers and face oils that are loaded with nourishing and natural vitamins. Some shy away from oil because they’re afraid of it causing break outs – but it can actually be very beneficial for your skin health. *I personally mix the Derma- E Anti-Wrinkle Renewal Cream with the Now 100% Pure & Certified Organic Rose Hip Seed Oil 1 fl.oz and love the results.
Your face should be left feeling soft, smooth and refreshed! Because the clay helps clear your pores, it assists with breakouts and acne. I noticed it smoothed areas of my skin that had previously felt rough from acne and, it has helped tremendously with dry skin issues. So many people boast of healthy and clearer looking skin with regular use of the clay masks. These are a great regiment to consider adding to your skin care routine.
