Superfoods Part 2: Royal Jelly, Bee Propolis and Bee Pollen

September 7th, 2009

Superfoods Part II is going to discuss the importance of beehive Superfoods such as Royal Jelly, Bee Propolis and Bee Pollen.  These three superfoods help support your energy and vitality and may have certain healing properties.  Products on the market today have been made from preserving the harvest of these superfoods, and have proven to help with a wide range of issues.

Royal Jelly is collected from the cells of the queen’s larvae.  It is produced in glands of the bee’s heads and fed to the larvae.  The queen bees keep getting this “nectar” which helps them grow larger and stronger than the other bees.  Royal Jelly is considered the nectar of the queens and is believed to help with conception issues, sexual libido, assist in lowering cholesterol and strengthen the immune system among other things.  You can buy it in a capsule form from a trusted brand like CC Pollen or NOW.

Bees also collect a mixture of trees, flowers and shrubs called Bee Proplis.  The bees use it to protect their hives by filling gaps in the hive with the sticky mixture.  Studies show it helps keep vibration down in the hive, and also reinforces the original structure.  Additionally, if a small intruder found its way into the hive somehow, the bees could wrap it in Bee Propolis instead of trying to carry it out.  This would keep it encased in an odorless and harmless shell and protect the colony from disease.  Propolis is useful to lessen the pain of sore throats, decrease inflammations, increase immunity and have overall healing properties.  Most people use it to try to get over a cold quickly, and can take in lozenge or pill form.  You can even find a combination Echinacea, Propolis and Vitamin C.

The last Superfood in Superfoods, Part 2 is Bee Pollen.  It is the pollen that is collected by the bees from the flowering plants.  Bee Pollen is considered a complete nutrient and is used to increase energy, help lessen allergy symptoms, increase stamina and fight stress and colds.  Most people add the powder to yogurt, cereal or other food items because it doesn’t always taste great on its own, but you can also try the tabs or caps that are available.

Obviously, if you have allergic reactions to bees these are not the right products for you, so check with your doctor first.  There are a wide variety of products on the market, so you may want to check out brands like CC Pollen that specialize in beehive superfoods.
