Find SuperFood at your Local Farmers Market!

April 26th, 2012

Cruise around your local Farmers Market as a fun way to start adding more fruit and Superfoods into your diet.   If you haven’t noticed, the Farmers Market scene is really popping right now.  Just in Orange County alone, I found 33 Certified Farmers Markets!  There is at least one every day of the week except for Monday as far as I can see.  Fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, nuts, honey, tea, hummus, dates, fish, cakes and even eggs and dairy products are sold direct to consumers.  You can literally eat your daily intake of fruit before you even finish walking through the farmers market!

The power of fruit is indisputable.  You need just 2 cups per day to keep the doctor away!  One cup of fruit is equal to about 1 orange, 1 apple, 4-6 strawberries, a large bunch of about 16 grapes, or 2 bananas.  Just mix-n-match any of those with a cup of berries and you are good to go.

I usually mix my fruit into a blended drink in the morning so I can add some kind of Superfood powder for added benefits.  Try MACROLIFE NATURALS Miracle Reds 30 oz which has freeze dried juices, natural fibers, living enzymes, and probiotics.  It’s got ingredients like goji, pomegranate, acai, mangosteen, apricot, red raspberry and grape seed just to name a few.  Another Superfood I love is the VIBRANT HEALTH Rainbow Vibrance 6.24 oz. because it has a full spectrum of Superfood powders – raspberry, tart cherry, cranberry, red cabbage,  apricot, carrot, green cabbage, papaya, turmeric, kale, blueberry and even more.  (Drinking your fruit in the morning gives you all day to burn the calories.  So if you are dieting, you don’t need be afraid of “the fruit” before noon).

Adding fruits and Superfoods into your daily eating routine is crucial if you want to help reduce the risk of getting some cancers and other chronic diseases.  Daily benefits include a boost of fiber, free-radical fighting antioxidants, essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

Remember, the more intense the color, the more nutritional the product.  Here is a list of what the colors represent as far as nutrition goes:

Red = contains lycopene which fights free radicals, and cancer causing chemicals.

Green = contains iron necessary for carrying oxygen to blood, production of hemoglobin, healthy muscles and bones; also helps with energy and concentration.

Yellow & Orange = has plenty of Vitamin C for immune system and Vitamin A for eyes

Purple = contains Carotenes which are important for healthy intracellular activity, and are also high in antioxidants and phytonutrients.
